Do You Need to Know How to Code To Use WordPress?

Alot of people ask if you need to know how to code to use WordPress. The simple answer is no. WordPress comes with many unique themes and page building tools that can allow users to make fully functional websites without writing a single line of code. However, if you want custom features and functionality that a third party plugin can’t support, you’ll probably want to do some development work on your own site. For this, the ability to incorporate languages like PHP, HTML, and CSS may be required.

If you have no coding experience at all, there are still plenty of options to make a great website. There are many free and paid themes that you have to choose from that will help you properly style your website. The main benefit of being able to code here is that you can use a child theme to make certain adjustments that you cannot make in the dashboard. Depending on what theme you are using, there are usually a decent amount of options to change the theme without having to use code.

Aside from themes, you may also want to use a page builder to style and build your site. Page builders such as Elementor can be found and downloaded from the plugins section of the dashboard. After you have selected your page builder you can go in and use drag and drop tools to add pictures, video, text, and more to your site without coding.

You may also want to use plugins. These can be downloaded as well and serve many different functions. From analytics, design, user interfaces, etc. plugins will solve many of your needs.

Being able to code is not necessary to use WordPress for relatively simple websites and with plugins, you can throw in some advanced features as well. I would still recommend learning the basics of HTML and CSS to be able to have more control over your design. More advanced users may want to learn PHP and SQL or hire someone in order to make your own custom plugins so that you have complete control over how your site works.
